How are you keeping warm today?
ps. 1 year and 3 months without a haircut. I lost some hair after the baby. It is all growing back and I have a halo of 2 inch wisps framing my face. I know I should get my hair trimmed or chopped off but I still don't want to pay up for it. (you've heard all of this before! but...just letting you know there hasn't been any change!) Things I don't mind paying for: boxing day sweaters, facials, natural skin care products, cooking classes, books...really the list is endless...but stops short of hairdressers. I don't trust that I will come out looking better than I go in...but I will be at least $100 poorer.
UPDATE!
Ok I did it this afternoon (about 2 hours after this post)...before, after...$106 later (including tip):
I gotta say...I love this short shaggy cut on you! It's very cool and earthy..I didn't think the colour looked fake either! Wish I could wear bangs (curly hair no-no) as I understand it makes everyone look more youthful!! Have you considered going to a hair school? Aveda and Fiorio have good ones and pay much less.
ReplyDeleteOh my lord do get me started on falling out hair! Looking great!!
ReplyDeleteYou look great! Come on now, you must feel a teeny bit thrilled with a fresh haircut ?
ReplyDeleteNope! I feel like less of a freak - I don't put a lot of value on my hair...Its so fine, and usually pulled back...its not a feature I play up!
ReplyDeleteYou looked great in short hair a few years ago. Show us the full picture please with the new hair do.
ReplyDeleteThat sweater is amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the short haircut! I've been wanting to go short recently myself but my little one still likes playing hairdresser on me and I'm afraid I'll lose that if I cut it all off.
ReplyDeletelooks good shan! hair AND sweater! (i did the same this past weekend - too funny - a few new tops and a haircut/colour). feeling a bit less frizzy!
ReplyDeleteWow! A year and 3 months! Props! I'm trying to not get a haircut while I'm in China (only 10 months), but I'm worried about how much I'll have to cut off when I get back to Canada to get rid of dead/split ends. I like my hair longer though! (5 months to go..) Also, $100 for a trim?! Do you go to a fancy place? (Then again, haircuts are much more expensive in the small city of Fredericton, NB than the small town of Woodstock, NB so maybe that's just big city prices?)
ReplyDeleteI almost always have my hair pulled back into a ponytail so I always go to Chinatown for a $7 trim! I'm rarely disappointed and if I am, up the hair goes! ;)
ReplyDeletethats the way to do it!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank Michelle! I took down the short hair photo...I will try to update my self portrait soon! My hair is still shorter with bangs in the current photo on my about me page!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cozy looking sweater!
ReplyDeleteI hear you about hair dressers. I try to go to the cheapest hair dresser possible because I can never tell the difference between a cheap haircut (under $50) and an expensive one. My BFF was working for a pricy hair dresser for a while, so I felt obligated to go to her. If it weren't for the full hour of girl talk that was almost always followed up by a lengthy coffee date, I would have hated how much I forked over.
Now, I get my MIL to cut my hair! She used to be a hairdresser and kept up her license. When the husband and I were first married, she never offered to cut it for me - I think she was nervous about having her new daughter-in-law mad at her! She has the best prices... free!
I must confess...I am a self cutter. I have no problem paying for highlights for my hair but stop short of a cut. With a young daughter who likes to pull on hair, its always up in a pony or bun - so why bother?! Check out some YouTube videos and give it a try. Much easier than you think!
ReplyDeletegreat hair and sweater! for many years (in my 20s and 30s) i used to just hang my head upside down over the toilet and hack my hair off - gave it a layered look. i thought it looked fine - at least no one ever told me it looked bad. don't do it any more tho - these days i need all the hair help i can get ;)
ReplyDeleteI will try it next time I get the itch to cut it...in 6 months or so!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd now, here comes the rain :)
ReplyDeleteI will do this! I would have great satisfaction over cutting it myself!!!
ReplyDeleteoh man! You are set!!! I know ZERO hairdressers!
ReplyDeleteThere is always time to go short! It took 2 years to grow back out...
ReplyDeleteWhen it's short you need a ton of maintenance haircuts...to get over the awkward stage! There is no hiding it!
Thanks! Super duper cozy!
ReplyDeletebahahaha... this made me laugh... i was *exactly* the same... a year and three months of no-chop... i had my last hair cut just before lucy was born, and then yep - couldn't bring myself to book an appointment and pay-up... $85 later for me... and really, i won't pay it again. it was one of those awkward 'see you in eight weeks!' comments as i left the salon...
ReplyDeleteall throughout university i went to hair salon schools... and i'm totally going to try it again... so cheap, and they always work under a senior stylist so you end up with the high-end look with a low-end budget ;)
LOVE that sweater Mrs!!!! BTW - $106 DOLLARS?!? Dear lord. Please please please never pay that again. Shelley at Barberalla is amazing and inexpensive. I have been going to her for almost 5 years.
ReplyDeleteI know - I know! So expensive - so not worth it!!!
ReplyDeletedo you think they know? Can the hair stylist tell who is just not feeling it?
