Packing light for LA

The four of us (my husband and two boys) are going to LA for a week!  I have never been to LA, I've never seen the pacific ocean, cheers to first times!

I like to pack light (I LOVE the bragging rights it gives you!)...and it seems I am always in a competition with every time we go away, I try to take less than what we packed previously!  Here is what I am bringing:

In the suitcase:
- bathing suit
- sheer floral sleeveless + tank for underneath
- black bunny tank
- jean shorts
- sandals
- underthings and nightshirt
- a million beauty products (cleanser, toner, serum, oil, moisturizer, sun screen, makeup, deodorant, razors, body soap, sea salt spray)

On the plane:
- grey tank
- green jeans
- teal cardigan
- coral flats

I wanted to go with white jeans instead of green jeans because white is more summer...but I am worried about them getting dirty too fast.  I think green can take it.

I built my outfits around this bag, from Zara.

I will pack light for the boys too.  The kids get 3 bottoms, 3 tops, sandals + airplane outfit. My husband gets 1 bottom, 2 tops, sandals + airplane outfit!  Everything should fit in one bag easily!

  1. Ha ha...your husband gets 2 tops? For a week? Are you sure? Awesome. How about bathing suits for kids and husband? Love this packing post. I also love packing light but it rarely ends up really happening. Have a wonderful trip!

  2. have a great time in California! I just moved from San Diego, and the vast Pacific Ocean is're gonna love it!

  3. I need one pair of shoes for every possible activity! Really 2 tops (for husband), for 7 days?

  4. I'd at least pack 4 tops for your hubby! Are you guys planning on buying clothes there? Or doing laundry at the hotel? I'm all for light but you don't want to be smelly lol! Unless you're into his au natural scent :)
I went to Dominican with a guy I was dating once and when we unpacked our clothes at the hotel I noticed he had packed only 2 pairs of underwear for the ENTIRE WEEK! I freaked. Let's just say the relationship was over as soon as the trip ended. Gross.
Have fun in LA. I have always wanted to go! :)

oh, you're my kind of traveler!!! we pack super light too and really love it.

  6. I need to learn from you, because i really only end up wearing the same stuff over again.
I love the flowered top..where did you get it?

  7. Wow, you are a packing wonder! That is so impressive - as are the limits you impose on the hubs! Have a great trip

  8. His stuff takes up the most space! A definite disadvantage! We do one suitcase for all four of us...eventually it will be a carryon for each of us...this is good practice!

  9. The top was from sense of independance. Thanks!!!

  10. Love your style!

  11. Imressive! i'm an overpacker - have a great trip!

  12. This is super impressive! I was always known to be a chronic over-packer -- a big suitcase for just a long weekend! But then this year I was able to pack just a carry-on for 2 two-week long trips! Needless to say, my friends and family were impressed; I even impressed myself!

  13. love your outfits! I am with you on packing light. Chris loves options and I only pack one top per day.

Have a fantastic family vacation! so jealous ... I have never been to L.A.!

  14. Love the coral flats. Can you share where you picked them up? Have a great trip!

  15. Hi Haley!

I bought them in March from Zara...

  16. I love that bathing suit and have been searching all over for something similar! Please please please tell me where you bought it! I've been dying to find one!

  17. Hi Lizzy!

The bathing suit is by SeaFolly. I bought it 3 years ago when I was in my first trimester with baby #2 and already popped! It is a size 12, and still fits well...but it fit well when I was 30lbs heavier too!

    Happy shopping!

  18. I almost want to get the pink one too!
    It is the best!

  19. Amazing! Thank you so much! I love your style and will use this as inspiration to pack lightly for my next trip!
