Fall reading list

I am disappointed that I haven't been reading much lately.  I hope this latest stack of books will invigorate the habit!

I am currently reading Tender is the Night; I am not sure if I like it or not.  How can you read 75% of a novel and NOT form an opinion?  Please tell me this is just temporary mommy brain!  I enjoy Fitzgerald's style of writing.  I care enough about Dick and Nicole that I want to know where this is all headed.  Still, it's not a novel I want to stay up late to finish.  In fact, it often helps me fall asleep.

Do you have any killer book recommendations?  Have you read any of the above novels? Also, do you LOVE to read, yet go through the occasional dry-spell?

  1. I am absolutely ADDICTED to reading (generally about 2 per week) and yet sometimes go through periods where I can't seem to get myself to focus and 'get into' a book... I think it's pretty common.

I've read "Room" and "Decade of Fear" lately and loved them both!

  2. I go thru phases of reading & not reading too! Sometimes it is hard when you have little ones because you tend to fall asleep as soon as you sit down! Angie xo

  3. I like some Canadian flavour - ever heard of "A cure for death by lightning"?

  4. I read Tender is the Night recently as well. Don't know if you're a Mad Men fan at all, but it seemed to me that there were hints of Nicole as Betty (the somewhat unstable wife) and Dick as Don Draper (dashing, charming man with secrets) non? Thought it an interesting comparison.

If you're planning on reading Nicole Krauss next - I thought a History of Love was brilliant. And her husband has some pretty good stuff as well (Jonathan Safran Foer - esp "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close").

  5. I totally have dry spells. Some weeks I'll read three books and some weeks I struggle through one.

  7. I had to interrupt my regular reading for a parenting book (it was fantastic, by the way... Honey I Wrecked the Kids by Alyson Schafer). "Room" was amazing... couldn't put it down. Just finished "Commited" by Elizabeth Gilbert... it was no "Eat Pray Love" but I love how she writes, and it was definitely food for thought. I'm feeling like a mindless read that I can get through quick... I was thinking "Something Blue" (read the first one this summer.)

  9. I have a couple for you... The Lizard Cage, by Karen Connelly is brilliant. And what about Joseph Boyden's Through Black Spruce? Room, by Emma Donoghue is also so, so good.
