Gung Hay Fat Choy

Happy Chinese New Year!

We are having my in-laws over for dinner tonight to celebrate Chinese New Year - of course I decorated!

First I hung some store bought lanterns from Walmart.  Then I draped yellow and red crepe streamers and curly yellow ribbons over the curtain rod.   I wanted to fill the window with streamers but this is all we had. Since we have quite a bit of red felt, and some red embroidery thread, I made a few DIY decorations - bumpy felt streamers, and dangling felt O's!!!

This is my first time decorating for Chinese New Year, did I do ok?

(I had to pull out the flash for these photos)

the most we ever bothered to do was to stick a few of these (http://img.ibtimes.com/www/data/images/full/2012/01/21/219852-chinese-new-year-2012.jpg) up when the family came over for dinner.

  9. Nice decorations! You did it in a tasteful and chic manner. Chinese decorations can be quite tacky and gaudy if not done right! You did good! :)

  10. Happy New Year, Shannon! I think you did awesome. I'm get excited from just hanging red lanterns. Sometimes, my mom just tapes a red envelope on the wall and calls it a day. She's silly like that. Ha. Did the kids get a lot of lai see?!

  11. Ah! So inspirational. I just had a baby in December - his god-mom is Chinese. Next year or the year after, we plan on going to Hong Kong and China with her to celebrate. I never thought of decorating; I'm so all over that!!!
