It's time to clean out the junk drawer!
Imagine a person from a future civilization stumbled upon our junk drawer, perfectly preserved, as of today? What would the contents say about us?
"A family with young children (markers/construction paper/glow in the dark stars)...at least one computer nerd (gadgets), forgetful mommy (many almost used up notepads, some old notes)..."
They also might think we sent a lot of correspondence judging by all the stamps, used up packing tape, and a few remaining envelopes - nope! Stapled a lot of papers? Nope! Did some math? Nope! Played Badminton? Nope! Combed our hair? Nope! (Only when necessary!)
Umm. yah, that's a picture of me, pregnant the first time! I was jumbo! Obviously the photo should be in the junk drawer, no? The 'Door Hinge Pin Enclosed' envelope actually DOES contain a door hinge pin - in case you were wondering!
What's in your junk drawer? What does it say about you?
OMG! Don't tell me we don't have Junk drawers any more?!!?! Am I a dinosaur with a disorganized catch all drawer?
I don't even have a junk drawer! Can you believe it? Some days I actually just want one so I can stuff all the leftover junk somewhere. I'm constantly forced to put everything back where it belongs.
ReplyDeleteNice work on the organization Shannon - don't you feel better about the order of things?
I spy a Finance calculator! (coming from a CPA)
ReplyDeleteTwo CFAs in the house! Although I retired my designation!
ReplyDeleteYou are one smart cookie! I put most of the junk into its proper place, but those hooks, the safety pins, even the candy canes were left in there.
ReplyDeleteooh nice birks box! my drawer is a mess...i usually just dump everything and begin again...
ReplyDelete"Girl shoves every unrelated thing into a small place and swears whilst pushing/pulling the drawer daily. All she likely wants is the thai menu crumpled at the back behind the used birthday candles from 2003."
ReplyDeleteI remember being at a dinner party once and people were talking about their junk drawers. When I was asked about it and said that I don't have one, you should've seen the looks on their faces. I felt so strange. :P
ReplyDeleteStrange indeed!!!
ReplyDelete:)
This is technically a stationary drawer but you see a lot of junk also calls it home!!!
I don't have a junk drawer because there are no extra drawers in my kitchen to house one. And my office drawers are all office-specific. Maybe I'll have a JD in my next home...ah...if only!
ReplyDeletep.s. You didn't ditch the candy canes? Do candy canes ever expire? They always just seem to linger long after the season, don't they?
I also have leftover valentine candy. It hasnt found it's way into the junk drawer!
ReplyDeleteI "cleaned out" our junk drawer today as well... kind of anyway hahaha. It's way better than it was before and only a few items are left in there. It's only a start of all of the cleaning up and organizing that I need to do around here...
ReplyDeleteMine is not in bad shape - I cleaned it up about 2 years ago and added dividers and little bowls to hold things and everything seems to be going back in the proper spot. I am amazed myself, even hubby and the kids put the things back in the proper container. Although it does justify it's name as it holds all kinds of odds and ends - hair clips and brush for my daughter last minute fix before we go to school, rubber bands, freezer clips, spare change, pens, string, spare keys, tape etc.
ReplyDeleteIT STAYED CLEAN FOR TWO YEARS?
ReplyDeleteThose are some crazy magic dividers!
Um, at my desk I have 3 junk drawers?! They are simply separated by type- tool junk, desk junk, craft junk. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteNice job getting your under control..I need to clean mine out too.
Ooh, I wish I just had a junk drawer. Mine is more like a junk closet! It's filled with books, extra home accessories (for styling vignettes for the blog) and everything else imaginable. LOL.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Amy
Ps. Just wanted to say a huge thank you for popping by my blog today and leaving a lovely comment. I am so glad you did, as it led me to your blog, which is gorgeous!!!
I love this post. I should really try to do a post like this. I love seeing the guts of your drawer... :)
ReplyDeleteJunk drawers are so useful - I love mine! It comes in so useful a- all the time - how else would you know where to always find a stapler, glue, sellotape, safety pins, paper clips, stamps, note pads, brush (for the last minute hair brush of the kids when you realise over breakfast they haven't brushed their hair and you need to race them to school), antiseptic cream (when you cut your hand on a knife), etc. etc. Oh not forgetting library cards - would I ever know where these were if I didn't keep them in that drawer. Elastic bands! We call ours the bits and bobs drawer.
