Going dark!!! I don't have to pick a door colour, yet...but that hasn't stopped me from testing some colours out!
ps. I don't think we need to add back the shutters.
(All colours are approximate, because this is a computer and because I am working with an aluminum colour sample. I am very happy with the sample I have in hand held against the bricks, and this is a pretty decent mock up! For the door, I need help picking a colour family, then I will get sample pots and find out the exact shade that works best!)
UPDATE: Added more colour tests...based on your comments! It is starting to look candy coated!
Black or light walnut color may look nice with charcoal trims.

ReplyDeleteHmmm...I am not a fan of stained doors...I mean, some houses pull it off - sure...but I prefer a painted door to a stained door! That's just my taste! (Besides, stripping the door would be hard work or crazy toxic or both!)
I think the yellow is kind of fun, but it's certainly a bold choice. If not that, I would go with the gray.
ReplyDeleteI think you need to do something that stands out. Maybe pull an off-white or tannish color from the stone on the house? I feel like the orange, gold and grey kinda blend too much, the yellow is too bright. Maybe even a tone between the gold and yellow?
ReplyDeleteAn idea I had was to maybe paint the trim around the door either the same color you choose for the door, or a black/off white/tan... Just a thought so it could stand out. I only suggest that because I really like the contrast the door currently has with the white trim and black door.

Because of the rusty tone of your brick I'd go with million dollar red by BM - it will be a eye catcher, but not jarring. I think the yellow tones will read to green and the orange might be too light? If you want more orange, try tomato red also BM or red stone. Or how about green with dark celery? I think a statement door will look lovely. If you wanted to keep the look more subtle but move away from the black, you could try a deep blue?

Green was my first choice, but the lady at Benjamin moore says a lot of greens look plastic outside...for whatever reason!
I like the orange and grey! They both look great! :)

ReplyDeleteYellow, yellow, yellow all the way! I actually contemplated painting my front door yellow (but went with Navy) as I think my house is too light to handle a yellow door. I had Martha Stewart Egg Yolk picked out though - it's a great yellow.

ReplyDeleteNormally I am immediately drawn to bright pops of colour, but I am really quite partial to that rich navyish blue...but I think with the dark soffits, etc I like the orange colour best! Good luck with your decision!
