Missing toys bother me WAY more than they should...

...missing toys

Where do they go?

I mentally catalogue every toy that comes into the house*...we clean up once or twice a day, and put everything back into its correct place.

When something goes missing my head explodes.

After lunch we picked up the blocks. Where is the last one?? It is always just one, you know? Where in the world could it be?  Not on the floor, or under the appliances, chairs, under the newspapers, not in the dining room, not in any cupboard, not in the trash (garbage picker, I checked no less than three times), not on the counters, not in the hall closet, not in the powder room...NOT IN ANY OF THE SHOES. Not with the mittens, not in the bottom of the stroller, not on the living room floor.  COME ON...I mean, they were all here this morning.  Just a few hours ago the set was complete. What could have happened to it?

umm..well, there is a one year old and a three year old in the house...so just about ANYTHING could have happened to it!

I finally gave up looking, but I can't stop thinking about it.  I told myself it will show up, and I am trying to let it go...but, it's soo hard.  It's like admitting defeat.

*Crazy

Update: 2:45pm We found it! It's nice to have my temporary insanity documented!

  4. Missing toys drives me crazy too but I usually don't notice they are gone for months! I obviously need to instigate your clean up rule. I'm a "shove it in the basket" kind of mum!

  5. Oh, I can't deal with shoving it in the basket....tractor trailers in one bin, thomas in another, buses go in this bin, squinkies in this tin, etc... Everything has a place!

A few random toys in the kitchen, I rotate them in and out ...since we spend most of our time in the kitchen.

  6. It's probably better that our kids aren't OCD about where their toys are placed...imagine how much grief they would give US?

  8. This bothers me, too. Not just at home but also at work. I'm a preschool teacher so cleaning up toys gets crazy!

  9. Oh man we are so alike. We also clean up several times a day - I have a rule that you can't make a new mess until you have cleaned up the first one. One mess at a time! It sometimes works...

I may have passed on my OCD to my eldest son....he kind of freaks when all the puzzle pieces aren't there... but that's genetic, right???

  11. I can't believe how long I let it bother me...I mean, I could spent my time doing ANYTHING else in the world rather than looking through the trash three times...

  12. Just wanted to add that my husband is way more OCD about this than I am. I try to make sure we clean up often, but when he plays with our daughter he puts all the sets together to make sure all the pieces are there (of course there are always pieces under the cough, etc.). Drives him nuts when one is missing.
I, on the other hand, am missing a bowl out of my kitchen and have no. idea. where. it. is. CRAZY I tell you! I'm going crazy!
