New Art Upstairs
Last Thursday, I picked up the framed photos and paintings from the Nikola Rukaj Gallery. They did a fantastic job!
When we worked with a designer (four years ago now!), she had several pieces of art framed using warm silver wooden frames. The gallery told me this is called germanic silver. I went with germanic silver on the salvation army water colour (now hung in the office) and the open book photo (hung in the master bedroom). I used white frames to display my son's splashy square painting and the more subtle blue and yellow water colour (hung in the office below the bookshelves).
The abstract print (green, blue and yellow; below the water colour in the office) is a page taken from a book and stuffed into an ikea frame. I want to hang more of these "Abstract Art Patterns and Designs" (that's the name of the book). Vintage (well, 1988) and fantastic! Hmmm...maybe too much of a good thing? Perhaps I should list some of the best pages on Etsy? You like?
ps. this is a two-part post! You could say I want to stretch this content for all it's worth (I do!), but mainly, I don't feel like taking photos in the basement today.
pps. Added back the polar bear pillow onto the lucite chair ...for Tim, Natalie, Cathy Ficsher, Rosa Pearson, and Michelle!!
YAY for the polar bear pillow staying. It totally works with the open book prints above and the rest of your bedroom. I like how you mix the cool and the warm tones throuhgout the room, so elegant and serene. I love framing prints from antique/vintage books. There's a pretty big market out there.
ReplyDeleteYes, the abstract art patterns in the Ikea frame is the bomb. Def sell the best pages on Etsy. I'll prob buy one. Thanks for the shout out re:bear pillow.
ReplyDeleteso lovely. i love all the art against the blue walls. so serene. and, i love the germanic silver frame, great choice. i love that you have lots of art everywhere (at least in the places you photograph)...adds so much personality.
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily!
ReplyDeleteI want more and more and more art! I want to fill up the walls - except, it feels like we really don't have a lot of walls!
done!
ReplyDeleteI think that page is a bit crooked in the frame though? I swear I hang everything crooked!
Thanks Michelle!
ReplyDeleteThe open book was a photo I took, and we were able to print it here at the house! It's awesome (but I am biased!)
Framing book pages using IKEA Ribba is the best bang for the buck!
You are always so good at mixing art together and making different sizes look totally natural together. When I have 2 pieces that aren't the same size I totally stress about it and think it look awkward - but yours look great. Love that book print!
ReplyDeleteyay!! love seeing the lucite chair and polar bear back in the room :)
ReplyDeleteI have been lucky and found some nice frames at thrift stores and have been spray painting them a silver which is pretty close to the germanic silver. Mind you it is a combo of 2 silver paints but I love the look. I love your blog- plenty of ideas that inspire me!
ReplyDeleteLove the open book photo. It's so well composed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anita!
ReplyDeleteI never look at the frames when I am at the thrifts...only what's 'in the frames...I should pay more attention!!!
Thanks Charlotte!
ReplyDeleteyou were right!
ReplyDeleteI just go for it!!! With my eyes closed and my fingers crossed!!!
ReplyDeleteThe polar bear pillow is so sweet!
ReplyDeleteJust discovered your blog today and I love it! Your house is inspiring and your vintage finds are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the print of the book in your bedroom. It's absolutely perfect.
