The best part of renos: putting your rooms back together

I have started to untangle my house. We used the living room and dining room as storage/dumping grounds during the renovation.  The living room will take quite a bit of muscle to take back.  Therefore I started with the dining room...

It looks like a room again! Yeah!!

Note: I am only showing one view since there are still a few boxes (that contain recent purchases intended for the basement) along the other wall.  Oh and I will eventually have the chairs flanking the sideboard recovered...I have several things I need reupholstered so I will do them all at once...maybe in the fall.

  2. I love, love, love your dining room! All of it. The colour, the table & chairs, the sideboard! Perfection!

  3. It just occurred to be now that I should have tossed out the dead tree branch and put some fresh flowers in the vase on the sideboard...instead I dusted the branch...that shows you how often I have bought a bouquet during the past 20+ weeks - it didn't even cross my mind!

  4. your wood tones are so fundamentally wrong, but maybe you don't realize that - a lot of people don't. You'll also do yourself some good by matching the lamp and chandler shades in tone and vertical angle. Though maybe garage sale chic is still hot in your area? You're sooo close to really displaying good taste -- don't give up!

  6. I love the room too! But I have to admit that the comment about the wood tones is not a bad one... I am not one who likes all the wood in the room to match, but here we have many "almost the same" tones... I think you have to either match your tones OR really pick different essences and wood tone types.

THAT being said, Anonymous, you are lacking some finesse in your writting. Next time, in addition to your critism, you should make us, "the common mortals", understand your views.

  8. I think you have a beautiful dining room and I find the way you designed it has "tension" (which, is a good thing). Wood tones DO NOT have to match and neither does metal finishes! Who wants a room that looks like it came out of a big box store? I think "layering" a room, as you have done here, is very comfortable and relaxing. And another note... since you have a very neutral palette in your home, the finishes do not clash! Thank you for sharing your space!!
