Dinner time!

Yes, it's a little early, but my son is at pre-school, and the fall chill is in the air, so I pulled out a slow cooker recipe to try.

Seriously, how do you moms get dinner on the table every night? Especially working moms? I plan three meals on the weekend...so that going into the week I have 3/5 days covered (my husband cooks on the weekend)...but in all honestly, I'd rather be blogging, crafting, reading, shopping, walking around, staring at the walls...

(my apologies to anyone who doesn't like the sight of red meat...sorry...I don't know what compels me to put raw meat up on the blog, procrastination I guess)

UPDATE: DELICIOUS...very rich, very heavy...we paired it with rice

  1. It's a constant struggle to make a meal that everyone likes and that I can put together easily. I'm a planner though - I plan and shop for all the dinners for the week on Sunday. Then I have everything I need to put it together quickly. Also, at least one night a week is a crock pot meal.
I actually have the most difficulty coming up with different meals to make so we aren't eating tacos every night as my kids would prefer!

  2. I'm not a mom, but my boyfriend probably eats as much as 2 people lol. I always cook big portions (mostly on the weekend) so they'll last more than for one dinner. Homemade pasta sauce (boil fresh pasta for it each time you eat some), chili, casseroles, stews...just add a fresh salad or some veggies to the side and you're good to go.

and I am terrible with leftovers...the next day or I can't do it....unless we freeze it

hmmm....maybe we are making dinnertime more difficult than it needs to be

  5. I'm definitely not the cook in the house. We often struggle with the "what's for dinner" question because we dont' plan ahead. However, when we went to the cottage for a week this summer, we planned out each meal, shopped accordingly and seriously - life was SO much easier! There were no debates re what to eat, everything was ready to go and meals were delicious!

Of course we haven't been able to carry that over to our home life but I think it might be worth a try (especially with our new no carb no dairy diet ugh).

  6. Hey J!
Planning 5 meals is tough, because what if I am not in the mood for something? Then I have guilt if it rots away in the fridge. For example, there are perfectly beautiful sugar snap peas in the crisper right now that I just don't feel like cooking. (maybe tomorrow)

  7. Oh and before I was a mom, I worked a lot later than my husband...sometimes I grabbed dinner downtown, but most of the time my better half had dinner waiting for me! Those were the days!!!

  8. I must invest in a slow cooker here in Dubai - a nice time-saver and always so delicious! :)

  9. Slow cooker is the best! I feel so much relief that dinner is already done...and I didn't worry about leaving the house while it simmers

  10. Yes but I find that if everything is pre-planned and purchased, then 'what I feel like' doesn't really come into it. It is when I'm standing in front of the fridge, looking at what I have and trying to think of something when I say "I don't feel like that".

You could try to pre-plan 4 meals and then have one freebie night?
