Haircut

I have the WORST haircut right now.  This is the second time my hairdresser has gone through the motions, chop chop chopping, and I have left completely unsatisfied.  Usually, I wait a few washes before I complain (to my husband) too much...but this time it is pretty blah.  I will let it grow and grow and grow and in a few months, try to find a new hairdresser (breaking up with a hair stylist is sooo hard...even if I only go 4-5 times a year, let me know if you have a good one for fine, straight hair).  I think my pregnant face is not helping matters.

I decided to post a few very old photos of me (my face - yup! from 2008) to show you my favorite haircut of all time.  It helps that these photos were taken in Nice, France....maybe I am feeling nostalgic about travel, or miss being skinny ... or maybe I should go for crazy layers again.

Honestly, nothing I did or didn't do to my hair made it look unstylish.  Quite the opposite of my current haircut - where any attempt at style is a fail!

ps. I am STILL two inches off the shoulders...  I kinda want to go back to my hairdresser and request this, called "the pageboy"

  2. I totally recommend Hiro at Salon Bespoke (Yonge/Bloor) for fine straight hair. That's what I have, and he's worked wonders with it.

  3. I'm with you - I hate my current haircut. I don't blame my hairdresser - I TOLD her to go shorter because my hair grows fast. Big mistake. Everyone tells me how cute my hair looks. Just what a girl wants to hear! I do love my hairdresser, though. I'm just longing for more length! :)

  5. Love the BANG in your pictures. I am not kidding I usually have jitters the night before I go to my hairdresser. It's so far to find someone that can consistently redo your last favourite. Whenever I changed my stylist, I ended up bringing a couple of pictures of myself in my favourite cuts/length to show them, and it worked sometimes.

  7. Love the bangs. I had bangs for years and gave them up, now I don't have the guts to cut them again as I worry about maintenance. Great to see your face...

  8. I hate it when that happens! I actually got a haircut very similar to the one in your old pictures and I know what you mean about feeling stylish without doing anything - I think it's the bangs!

  9. Such pretty photos! I hear ya. I got a haircut I hated just before I had my first child and, when I really look back at it, I realized I didn't like my fuller face and the cut wasn't helping. I get my fine thin hair cut at Earth Salon on Scollard St. by the owner, Mike Crispel. He's great! I've been going to him for 6 years and I've never been disappointed.

  11. It will grow...and then get split ends when you have it just about the right length :)

  12. I have had a few decent cuts from this hair dresser...I expect a lot ever since 2008! I should just go back to David, but he is downtown at First Canadian Place...I don't ever go down to the financial district these day!

  14. Bangs are tricky for me...because my hair isn't thick, its hard to get good volume unless half of my head is dedicated to bangs. Still, they work with my face! I went through a Feist phase too (well, I still adore Feist)

  15. I wish I could pull of the top bun with thick bangs...its my favorite look, but I will never have enough hair!

  16. Thanks! I don't think my face is helping

...but its all blunt and choppy at the ends...almost if I grabbed a hunk of hair and cut it with dull scissors....ok, not THAT bad, but not good either...and I don't have bulky hair. I will google map scollard st...

  17. If you find one, PLEASE post a review as I would love to know! I have fine, straight hair that can't hold a curl or volume. It's also quite sparse on the sides. Now I wear it long because at least that's a "style"....sort of. I've tried bangs but instead of Mena's, mine is too gap-y and after a day, just starts looking limp and greasy. I love your hair in that 3rd photo! I want bangs like that. But oh, a good haircut is so elusive for us.

  18. Oh I KNOW!
My bangs never made it through a full day at work (12+hours)...but stay cool now that I am home. I don't think I touch them as often now...

Curl/volume? FORGET ABOUT IT! The best is back combing and pinning it into a sassy secretary style with a clip. But then the cut doesn't really matter!

  19. I have fine, thin hair as well and I've seen the same hairdresser for the past ten years. I' love getting my hair cut – hair is just hair to me and I believe in having fun with it! I've had a mohawk with lighting bolts shaved into the side (in the middle of winter – not the right season for it!), Astroboy bangs, disconnections, every kind of asymmetrical cut, etc. I'm actually annoyed because right now I feel obligated to grow it out before my wedding if I want to be able to style it, but I hate having long hair (I do not own a brush, hair elastics, a blow dryer...never found them necessary), and "normal" hair...(well, it's still long random pieces in the front, heavy bangs, and short blunt in the back, but this is pretty tame by my standards). Haircuts settle in an average of 2 weeks post-cut, so if you still hate it by then then I'd try the pageboy cut you like. Shorter cuts are better for fine hair.

  20. Ah hairdressers. I have had the worst luck with hairdressers. Your hair looked great and I hope that you find a great hairdresser soon.

  21. I don't have bangs - I look terrible in them, but the girl who introduced me to him does, and hers look fabulous!
