Update

The second baby IS easier.  He sleeps (in the bouncy chair)! We understand grunting = gas!  Breastfeeding is easier (I can handle five hours of doing nothing but rocking and feeding - those growth spurts)!  I wear baby when he is fussy! Oh and this is a big one - I don't worry! Besides, this is our last newborn - so I want to enjoy every moment. Time has a way of escaping, no matter how hard you try to hold on.

My toddler adjusted to having a new baby in the house within about a week's time.  Actually, it wasn't until my husband went back to work and it was just the three of us that the tantrums subsided.  I find I have a much shorter fuse when it comes to his throwing, smashing, screaming and jumping around. Basically, I say,  'Do you want a time out?' in a raised voice more often than I wish to be.  My toddler has become more attached to my husband - but he is still mama's little helper!  He also adores his little brother and smothers him with affection.

My toddler and I are both adapting to spending sooo much time indoors.  We used to go for walks nearly every day.  I am an amateur when it comes to the logistics of two babies, outside, when cold.  Getting the three of us dressed takes over 30 minutes (even without combing my hair). Not to mention that Baby needs to be fed and changed before we head out the door.   My toddler still wants to be in the stroller, so Baby goes in the wrap. I know this will get easier.

Being sick the entire month was not what I bargained for.  I have to fit in a doctors appointment next week to see if I need medicine to recover (I had a fever again Friday afternoon).  I have a feeling my low immune system (from pregnancy), nose picking toddler, and lack of sleep have sabotaged my recovery.

Note: Wearing the mamankangourou wrap

  1. health first mama...everything else will follow. I may not sound like mommy of the year or anything...stick a dvd in to keep kid #1 busy and rest as much as you can.

  2. Once you feel better things get easier...have you considered a phil&ted stroller. Fits two but only one wide...kids change alliances all the time, it's daddy for a while, then mommy again. Hope you feel healthy soon.

  3. When I see your picture, I feel excited about holding our baby number 2 on Wednesday (scheduled C-section) but on the other hand I am also stressed about handling 2 kids and sleepless nights...hope you feel better soon.

  4. i remember! my 2 are 20 months apart. its a challenge especially in winter (and cold season). when my husband was out of town and baby girl became a distracted nurser I let our toddler watch (age appropriate) cartoons. and i agree head to an urgent care (or is that a US thing?) and feel better!

  5. Boo to being sick :( Yay to the second being easier. I know I'm technically up to my third soon, but as the biggie is sooo much bigger I feel more like I have two first borns and this is the second... am thinking the preschooler will still want to go in the stroller a lot too. The Ergobaby is ready!

  7. Take care of yourself mom. Your health should be priority or at least on the top five. Take care and we've all been there. It does get easier.

  8. Mama needs to take good care of herself! You can't watch the wee ones if you are sick : )

oh gosh, hope you feel better soon. It definitely must be the stress of your body from pregnancy/childbirth that's run down your immune system. Would you consider trying some herbal remedies to boost up your immune system?

i agree that you should try to rest as much as you can. even if that means putting toddler in front of the TV. he won't remember it and it won't make a difference in the long run

you can't get better if you don't rest.

PS> I do hope that 2nd one is easier. I have yet to cross that bridge. but I'm REALLY looking forward to it. maybe that will cheer you up :) I'd love to be in your shoes, sickness and all!!!!!

  10. Happy to hear that number two is easier. A few friends have said that to me now. I have the same carrier! Thinking I might also get an ergo this time around.
