Something to talk about

On the bus today, I was eavesdropping on a conversation conducted over my head, between two college-aged people, about earnings power and standard of living in Canada vs USA vs, say,  Katar.  It got me thinking...

I haven't had many adult conversations in the last three years. Do I even have anything to say?

Stuff I know about:
- celebrity gossip
- fiction  novels
- blogs / blogging
- mommy stuff
- diet / exercise
- thrifting
- places I have been

Underwhelmed? I sure am. The list is a little thin. Where's the depth!!?? Time to dive back into life! Experience something new! Learn something new! Connect to the world on a deeper level.

I thought an easy and free place to start is by cracking open the New Yorker magazine (that we already receive). Read an article or two from each issue.  I could also work on asking more questions and listening, rather than bore people with talk about the kids.  I will keep looking for opportunities to feed my brain, to travel, to try something new. The years fly by so quickly, it is a shame to stagnate when the entire world is out there, within reach!

I feel the same way. Sometimes I feel that all I talk about is work, baby, renos. Period. That's why I applied (and got accepted) to do Masters this fall. In philosophy! me, a commerce graduate :) ha ha. But it feels good. I know it won't be easy, but I feel that it is so the right move!!!

I'm so excited about this new topic. I hope you will talk about it here. I'm always up for a convo.

  2. wise words, wise words...If I don't have time to read, my way to connect and to learn something new or get over my issues (!!) on a daily basis is to listen to CBC radio (The Current, As It Happens, Sunday Edition, Q, Ideas...) when I'm cooking, eating dinner, driving...

  3. I was going to suggest CBC radio, but looks like you're already on top of that! My favourite is Metro Morning with Matt Galloway. I'm in intellectual love with him.

On the rare occassions that my husband and I get to go out for dinner alone we try to have a 'no kid talk' rule. It's HARD!

  4. Hmmm...I could try this! And you are actually able to hear the radio through the noise!? :)

  5. Fantastic! What an interesting study! What made you pick this discipline!!! Not easy at all!!! You go!

I don't think I will go back for a Masters...I did my CFA. I am not sure I have the dedication to pursue another degree! You never know...you never know!

  6. My husband and I have been out to dinner alone ONE TIME in 3 years....That's a whole other topic! Pretty much what happens when you decide not to bottle feed/pump.

  7. your question is a VERY good one! it shows that we are somehow living the same life! ;) but seriously, if I am listening with the boys in the close vicinity then I hear half of it...sometimes miss the interesting part or fun part :( but still worth it.
