New Prints

I bought two new prints from "...Of Things Past" consignment store. I bought the tiny tree first, and went back for the fish. I had to have the fish.

"Pasaje" (?), numbered 45/50, by Elizabeth Schippert (the tiny tree).
What I love? The itty bitty tree (4cm high) and the pen strokes. The minty colour is very Blogger 2014 (or was that 2013*?). I hung it high on the closet door in the office, leaving space for more.

"Shipwreck Dreaming/Approach", numbered 12/20, by Wendy Cain (the fish).
Wendy Cain is a teacher of printmaking and papermaking at OCAD university. You can find her work for sale at Open Studio in Toronto. I love the layered black on grey; the texture of the grey net; the thick creamy paper; the fine, evenly spaced lines of the comb shape at the bottom; the fish going up. I like the wacky creativity. I hung it in the hallway for now.

*I haven't been online over the last few months, I wanted to put the time into reading books and drawing. Everything is well!  I am feeling out of touch with the trends (are there still trends? If you don't know about them, do they still matter?)

  1. Welcome back Lady. I was thinking of you. Hope you found some good reads. I'm about to start Family Life. Love the fish print. You had to go back. I wouldn't think to hang frame son doors. Does it shift when you open the door or do you velcro it down? You must be running out of wall space ;)

  2. Hey Nat!
I've been checking my phone like crazy to see if anyone noticed that I posted ;) Ding ding ding!

I put an elastic around the hook so that it can't shift too much, but this is not a door I open very often. The closet is full of things I should probably get rid of!

I noticed today some headline or another about being sick of gallery walls, or an alternative to gallery walls...I don't think I will ever grow tired of looking at the art I have collected. If that means I need to hang a second level higher, or lower, or full wall of art, so be it. Gallery walls are fine by me... I mean, it's not like they were invented by bloggers in 2011 or whatever...

  3. Gallery walls are a necessity in my opinion. I hope they aren't passé. Houses aren't built with enough walls anymore, so what is an art/photography lover to do?

I'm also a fan of art hung on shelves (i.e. built-ins).
Can you share some more information about the awesome light fixture in your hall?!

  4. The hall light is from an outdoor market in Nice. We way way overpaid for it (we knew nothing - it was our first purchase after buying the house). It is a dimpled glass globe sandwiched between two pieces from an old chandelier:

  5. That is remarkable! My eye will always go to the French piece. I bought a blown glass light in Nice too. Back in 2006. I was living in my parents' basement apartment at the time, after my divorce and so we hung it in their foyer. I left it there after I moved into a tiny bungalow with my current husband. We just finished a huge reno and I would love to have it now, but don't know how to ask for it after all this time. LOL

  6. So happy you're back! Is it dorky if I admit I was worried about you when I realized you hadn't blogged OR posted on Instagram?

  7. good finds! that second piece is really striking.
I think people are over gallery walls if they filled them with random finds just to make the wall. If you love every piece - how could you be sick of it?

  11. I loooove that tree print, I must look up the artist. I agree with Natalie about gallery walls, in our new house, even with gigantor walls, there just isn't a spot for my/our collection. Plus with the huge walls the teeny pieces I have been able to afford are just too small and need to be grouped together. Anyway, glad to see you back! Must be a spring thing - I posted once or twice lately as well! :)

  12. I have missed your posts. Glad all is well. I love a gallery wall (house?) and finding pieces of art that express what I like. It will be interesting see what you find next for under the tiny tree.

  15. What you're saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I'm sure you'll reach so many people with what you've got to say.

  16. Welcome back to the online world!

  17. Exactly! I still collect images of beautiful art collections...maybe the phrase "gallery wall" is over used...it's nuts how quickly words grow tiresome in the blog community...I can think of a dozen words and phrases that I wouldn't have minded a few years ago, and now they make me delete a person from my reader...(harsh!)
