$8 chair, etsy, and a yellow umbrella

I got a few odds and ends done around the house today!
First off, here is the $8 goodwill chair, I recovered it in fabric from Tonic Living (found them via Rambling Renovators)...I considered making the trip down to Y&Co and buying something fabulous...but this way, the fabric magically appeared at my door after clicking on some buttons!  Who doesn't like that!! (Except I misplaced the little baggie with the screws for the chair, so the seat is not fastened down.  If you see the screws, please let me know) Follow this link to see the before picture.
Then we (the baby and I, that is) hung this photograph I bought off etsy (a local artist, check her out!)...I love the rectangles of the building's windows next to the rectangle windows in my new basement door...its just a little something that may or may not catch your eye as you pass through the hallway...lets call it a diversion.

Then I put up the Virginia Macdonald Yellow Umbrella photograph in the powder room (ok, you caught me, this is actually the SMALLEST room in the house, probably smaller than any room in your house too!)

...and I also picked up this pillow, on sale at Tonic Living, just to make the sectional a bit more groovy...I thought it would go well with the tangerine colour poufs and the orange deck...

hmmm...i really wish they had 2 of these left...one isn't cutting it

hmmm....and the orange isn't really the right orange...and I think its too much pattern for me all in one day...

Oh well...I guess I will give it to my niece for her room!

This may be the beginning of an accessories buying spree...or not!

I may have to get thrifty tomorrow...

Update: I will probably redo the chair because I like it, but, its just too much pattern for me...and I also need to raise the picture in the bathroom by about an inch... the orange pillow is definitely going to be given away.  So much for getting things accomplished!  The B&W photo, by the way, is To.Die.For! Perfect placement on my first shot! Whoo hoo!

  4. How do you get the baby to help you with the DIY? I must learn that trick! I like the Tonic fabrics but the chair doesn't seem quite your aesthetic. The pillow looks good though. And I love both of the photographs!

  5. LOVE that b & w photo. I'm definitely going to order something from her.
I'll take that pillow too, just, you know, if it's become a burden for you...:)
(I'd keep the chair as you did it- I think it's pretty great too...

  7. Your home is lovely and I especially like the hall!! Living in a one level apartment with a hall that resembles walking through a cave, you come to appreciate bright spaces like yours (:

Even though your update mentioned changing the fabric on the hall chair, I love it! Nice contrast and picks up the tones in the floor and walls.

Now, the orange mod pillow...great pattern! You could deconstruct it and create two pillows out of that one...pattern on one side and plain on the other. Then maybe add some simple trim on a few of the pillows you already have...orange on some and grey on the others to tie in the mod pattern...good idea? Maybe...? (:

  8. Thanks everyone!

I really do LOVE the chair fabric...but I think RR has it correct...its not me...its like this Hugo Boss skirt I bought (from Winners) that is a gorgeous subtle pattern...but a pattern I just couldn't bring myself to wear, not even on casual Friday. (Huh, I wonder if it still fits?) I wanted a blue that picked up the colours in the chinese ginger jars...but this is definitely a tad too loud for me...I LIKE boring & plain (you should see my wardrobe...grey, navy, white, jeans and black leggings)

Hey Michelle! Great idea about the orange cushion...that never even occurred to me! However I already promised the pillow to my niece (the same niece I was going to give the black foyer chair to, then I swapped it and gave her different chair instead.) She is big into orange right now!

Hey RR...The big boy took a nap through the staple gun noise (very helpful), then played with his new Michelle and Doug ABC blocks & wagon that we bought in the morning from College st. Winners (only 9.99!!! for a classic toy!!)...he also emptied my pencils all over the floor (Standard HB pencils are 50cents/10 pk at Shoppers this week...so we stocked up, I love how a billion pencils all together looks, but I haven't sharpened any of them yet)...and pulled everything out of the foyer console...in my books this is ALL GREAT! Making a mess keeps him entertained and out of my hair for small stretches of time.

  10. I love the fabric on the chair, but if you can't live with it, it has to go. Love the pictures too ... especially the building window one!
