Advent Calendar

I just hung the advent calendar!

There is a clip on the backside of each of the tiny numbered felt booties.  I want to clip a short message or story about Christmas to each one.  I thought it would be nice to sit in the living room every evening, and read about Santa, the birth of Jesus, where stockings came from, why we give gifts and other interesting facts about the holiday. My three year old LOVES stories...

Anyways, I now have to research 25 things about Christmas, print them, and stick them up...before Dec 1. No pressure!

UPDATE: I decided to write a short story every day...and 'upload' it to the calendar as we go...so that on Dec 24, all the clips will be full!

ps. I got this idea from the Caillou Christmas cartoon.
pps. I will circle back next week if I am able to pull this off! Let me know if you have any good ideas/website links that might help!

  1. I love this idea and it looks great. I bet you will find lots of interesting stories and facts to share. Combined with your own personal tales your kids will love it!

  5. Such a great idea Shannon! I want to do this too! Jen at Rambling Renovators also shared a list recently of different activities you can do each day, also a fun idea!

Your stockings are amazing, are they Pottery Barn? Homemade?

  6. You don't need to have all 25 done by Dec. 1st, just the first one (or 10) and maybe blanks to fill in as you go along. Then you could see how it's going and plan accordingly. Like if you know you will be busy one night a shorter something and if you know you'll have a lot of time another night something longer.

  9. What a great idea! I've always just bought the Playmobil advent calendar, but this sounds so much more personal and unique. But I do have to say that we have really enjoyed building a collection of all those amazing Playmobil Christmas pieces over the years, and occasionally we set up a Christmas scene on the sideboard with them, just for old times sake. So even that store bought advent calendar has turned into a bit of a tradition. Good luck with finding your stories!

I was tempted to get the lego advent calendar ...but he would lose most of the pieces...maybe in a couple years!

  16. So far so good! Actually, much better than I had imagined!!! I will keep the stories for next year...and it will be fun to see how they evolve as he expands his knowledge...I mean, sometimes I explain things in simple and fun ways that he will eventually out grow!
