House Timeline:
- We bought the house in 2007.
- During 2007-2008, we worked with an architect and general contractor to remodel the main floor and upstairs. We kept as much of the character of the original as possible (refinished the floors, all original trim), and added a small extension with a new kitchen, and moved the powder room next to the door to the basement stairs.
- We moved in once the renovation was complete, labor day weekend of 2008.
- In 2009, we worked with a designer to acquire furniture and art - money well spent! She emailed our options to us, and we could pick out new chairs, sofa, lighting, tables (etc.) from home!
- In 2010, we underpinned the basement. We started this blog to document the renovation.

We have slowly been adding our personality into the house by picking up items from Craigslist or at second hand stores (sometimes IKEA).   The end result...we are only now (after five long years) taking the designer and architect's 'vision' and making it our own.

  9. PS - Where have you hidden the powder room? The before shot - as you outlined - shows it in the front foyer but the after shot doesn't give us a clue where it's located now. Just being nosy :)

  10. Hey April!
The powder room is now off the hallway between kitchen and foyer. So we stole some space from the kitchen to make a tiny powder room (a toilet stall, really) and then pushed out the kitchen by 16 feet (small extension, big headaches)

  18. I LOVE your home. Your updates are fantastic, your artwork is gorgeous (esp. in the living room! Swoon), and I love the mix of vintage & modern that you have perfectly cultivated. And your home looks "real" and I love that. I love blogs for showing beautiful homes that people actually live in.

  25. Love your kitchen cabinets! Where are they from?

    ReplyDelete
  26. hi Christine!
our kitchen cabinets were custom built by Lancraft...(I think that's how you spell it)

they are way way over sized on the wall with the sink/stove, and the glass cabinets on the opposite wall reflect the style of window we used.

    Thanks!!!

  27. hi Ashlee!
Yup we used the same paint colour in the entire house...we went with 'half strength" in the living room, dining room and kitchen...

para paint silver fox P2238-4 (it is blue in the shadows)

  29. Whilst I am sure that your personalities are already in the space, I agree that (with or without help) it's good to live in a space for awhile and slowly adjust it to suit. You have created a beautiful home; I love your home too. Thanks for sharing. (......and yes, I WILL be pinching some ideas. lol! )

  30. Your transformation is truly amazing. I love how light it all is. My husband and I are ready for a change after 6 years in our home. My new "color" is grey. I can't help but notice your wall color. would you mind sharing the color and brand? Love the contrast with the white trim. Fantastic job!

  31. Have you used the same color in all your rooms?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yup! Our entire house was painted the same colour: para paint silver fox P2238-4 (it is blue in the shadows).

We used 'half strength' in living room and dining room...so they are lighter than the bedrooms/foyer. But same colour

oh, this is GREAT! answers many of my nosy questions about your house :) you have amazing taste. I LOVE how you're so consistent throughout.

I'm curious about he "office table" in the kitchen, something I'm definitely thinking of incorporating into my kitchen. I was wondering if you can tell me how you like yours? Or what you don't like about it? :)
