Styling the Foyer: Which Basket?

Thanks for your comments! You set off a spark in my brain!  I remembered that I have two baskets kicking around here to choose from...Basket One: dark, open / Basket Two: light, closed

I like basket one...but what do I put in there during the summer? It will be perfect for winter hats and mittens and scarves.

Basket two has a handy lid! Do you like the contrast of the black console and the light basket?

You pick!

(Please tell me if they are both: NO...like, "Shannon, this is painful to admit, but you have nasty dark green spinach covering your front tooth"...better to just say it...)

PS. I am obsessed with the Newell Post now! Thanks kb! You are Right!  (Oh and I will do a 'what I wore to the Museum' post just for you!!)

  1. Basket 2! I like the contrast in color and proportion.

  2. I think I prefer basket 1. But I'm not certain I LOVE either. Are you sure the foyer is missing something? It's so nice to have it open and airy - especially in the summer months. If you keep a basket - you could put beach towels, umbrellas, park toys, newspapers, magazines in there? Also - this is a bit picky - but how about sticking the Kleenex container in the console? Thanks for being so open about sharing your home (and decision making) with us! Your house is gorgeous!

  5. I think 1. I would still keep an eye out for a fun umbrella stand, or maybe one of those bright colored ceramic garden stools? Also, super cute museum outfit.

  6. If I absolutely have to pick I would go with the first one. But really I think the foyer looks great without either of them.

  7. #2 - love the height, more organic feeling and colour contrast with the black table. #1 seems a bit boring, expected and too short... just my 2 cents worth:)

  8. I prefer basket #1. I think I like how the rectangle shape of the basket is echoed in the rectangle shape of the console so it doesn't stand out too much.

I like basket #2. I think it will come in very handy for all the stuff that seems to accumulate at the entrance. In summer you can use it for sun hats, sunscreen, water bottles, flip flops and any outside toys that you might not want to leave outside.

I prefer the height of the second one and possibly the colour of the first one. I wonder if two tall one would look good there. I would keep sandals and flip flops or sun hats and sunblock in it.

  11. I vote basket 2 - the height of basket one is a bit strange in proportion with the table... plus I love the slouchy feel basket 2 has :)

Maybe for a new fun punch of color get a cool kleenex cover box? I agree with the comment below about moving it to the console table, kinda out of place on the window sill.

  13. I always try to clear my hall table out but it's full of scarfs/mitts. How many winter accessories does one girl need? Seriously! Looking forward to seeing what the final decision on the basket is...seems like you've got split comments here!

  14. I know....split down the middle!

I left the covered one under the table...I *like* the open basket...but I don't see the point in keep it for styling purposes only (I really have nothing to put in there)...soooo

I will swap them! In the winter, I will put the first basket out and fill it with wintery goodness...and in the summer...to keep the room from echoing (seriously...echo echo echo)...the light dumpy basket!

Both baskets are used for toy collection at the moment.

  15. I like basket 2. The constrast and the lid do it for me.

  16. I like the colour and shape of the first one. Maybe just to toss flip flops, sandals and blankets (for picnics and whatnot) in?

  17. I would say #1, although I'm not super drawn to either. However, I am really drawn towards your rug! Where's that gem from?

  18. Basket 1 all the way. If you are looking for heighth I wonder if you can put a two stacks of books side by side and then place the basket on that? Course that may look too busy. Basket 1 get's my vote ;)

  19. I vote for basket two just because of the lid, and because it's round, which I like! I love lids, makes everything look that much tidier!

  20. You have my vote for basket 2, i think the color goes much better with the whole entry way, the contrast of basket 1 is just too different :) Where did you purchase both of the baskets?

  21. Hi h2h!
the first basket is from an antique store, the second one from salvation army!!!!

OK, I know I'm late to the party and you've probably already chosen, but here are my two cents just in case you're still looking for opinions: while I like the colour contrast and the lid on basket number two, it looks a little ... what? Limp, maybe? Like it's slouching, almost, and I think it looks too loose next to the clean lines of your console and wainscoting. So I choose option #1! But if you already chose option #2, awesome: like I said, the colour and the lid are terrific :)
