Two of my kitchen chairs have cracked

Two of our panton-esque kitchen chairs have cracked where the seat bends into the back. I need to replace them with new chairs, but I don't want to buy these again (since they only lasted 4 years). I also don't want to go for the real pantons (should have in the first place, I suppose) because of the boys, and the cost ($300 each).

I brought up the two thrift store chairs from the basement. I will paint them white. If only I could find two more! You know I saw them at the Salvation Army on Parlaiment about a month ago, for $20 each. I didn't need them at the time and I felt pretty smug about only paying $5 for mine. What are the chances of finding them a third time?

ps. the wooden chairs are way more comfortable, and stable.
pps. I need to nudge the table to the left a bit...
ppps. Mix n' match is cool too! Once they are white I think I can pull it off!

I ordered 4 of the panton'esque chairs for our dining room in June. STILL waiting for them to come in... or to return them. I guess now I'll push harder for a return.

Fingers crossed to find two more matching chairs :)

  2. I love the style of the thrifted chairs - would love to find something similar for my dining room. Good luck with the hunt!

  3. They don't take much weight and are very tippy...every child that has visited (and my own two, of course) have fallen over when they don't sit properly...I mean, who sits properly?

    and your butt falls asleep...

good looking, wipe down easy enough, collect a lot of extra dust and jammy type substances in the bottom swoosh, take up a lot of space...

and that's all I have to say about them! Other than, I wouldn't buy them again.

  7. It's a great hour or two! We highly recommend starting with an ice cream from Ed's Scoop, then on to the Value Village next door.

  8. What if you were to paint the thrift store chairs (which I love) white... Or better still, colour dip them in white!!! Arrange them across from each other, rather than side by side and call it juxtaposing!
What happened to your bentwood chairs that I covet?

  9. I vote for mix and match. Especially if you paint the wooden ones white.

  12. Since I've set up a google alert for bentwood chairs, I got this email alert on mixing dining room chairs today! http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324886704579052920392194610.html

  13. Score at $5! You have such great taste. I've sat in similar chairs and they are super comfortable. I recently pinned this and it reminds me of your dining area http://pinterest.com/pin/217298750744004379/! A conundrum. My experience is always buy the real thing or wait until you can. I've learned the hard way as my fake designer dining chairs didn't last a year. I'm impressed with 4!
